The first step was to cut all the strips of both the background Navy and the colourful batiks for each type of dinosaur and sort them into plastic bags. Round the Garden designed by Wendy Williams was started January 2019 and whilst its been and on/off project, I have really enjoyed this quilt.</div><div><br /></div><div>The quilt is all hand stitched with felt and embroidery. I learnt so many new embroidery stitches and utilized the instruction of Sue Spargo on many of the designs.</div><div><br /></div><div>Felt is such a forgiving medium to work and the beautiful bright colours always bring a pop to the quilt. I've seen many versions of the quilt in the light background, but I always wanted to try a dark background and the Navy Linen that I used certainly did the trick.</div><div><br /></div><div>The only difficult part of the job was the fact that it is worked as a whole quilt and the size of the top did cause a few problem i<span style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; background-color: white; color: black; display: inline !important; float: none; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">s trying to balance everything on my lap at night.</span><b></b><i></i><u></u><strike></strike><br /></div><div><b></b><i></i><u></u><strike></strike><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLv2VleUjKDJJohwIx1dcZgscB1S-YP4NmquPSw7X23Vnttzni3cnansHc1CUQC0euZE-KoHC6WkHdB7-hdzYaeFFshTAkeB2TPrt-2QPtx85ljJaHxASdd86BWEU0693shN9rTGsPWre_/s2856/IMG_7806.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2856" data-original-width="2518" height="625" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLv2VleUjKDJJohwIx1dcZgscB1S-YP4NmquPSw7X23Vnttzni3cnansHc1CUQC0euZE-KoHC6WkHdB7-hdzYaeFFshTAkeB2TPrt-2QPtx85ljJaHxASdd86BWEU0693shN9rTGsPWre_/w551-h625/IMG_7806.jpg" width="551" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>I decided not to put a border around the quilt top and just finished the edge with a multi-coloured binding. This kept the size down so that I can hang on my wall at home.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjj5HSqlLJH04-2UTAJiAUovjknKVVDozk6C6Iwv0gzs3qJVe3EbxTzPO5XPgk_M3YUzoSfrvGxzLr6ylqAHXUYKwhYHyb5uwbsGWoQXR-h56NoTIQImXL3_YYSN1WMI5COKuQb601EVKqj/s4032/IMG_7813.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjj5HSqlLJH04-2UTAJiAUovjknKVVDozk6C6Iwv0gzs3qJVe3EbxTzPO5XPgk_M3YUzoSfrvGxzLr6ylqAHXUYKwhYHyb5uwbsGWoQXR-h56NoTIQImXL3_YYSN1WMI5COKuQb601EVKqj/w375-h500/IMG_7813.jpg" width="375" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><u><font color="#000120"></font></u><br /></div>I didn't have to do alot for the quilting, as the work itself was the feature. It was her 60th birthday and we all know she loves pinks and shabby chic. We decided to use a quilt template and here is the finished quilt and a few of the blocks the girls made: </div><div><br /></div><div>The centre block was a heart with all her family names embroidered around it. Back in May last year, my son and daughter-in-law presented to the world, a beautiful little girl whom they named Eleanor Celeste. Although she is in London, I flew over to help out in the first few weeks and of course took with me, a quilt especially for her. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiE0Sa2iYhQFdwTKYy-xhhi5JCKUjOFHkSNIiJok7RxIc5bX53Dvq4fQvty3umj5ISNcrvef_g8Xtlz16Gx0DiCDws0k2gUrfjzaEUJnQqYjiSbNKM5MgQlkfwhNld7mE-ci5AP9LBklSRg/s1600/IMG_4075.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiE0Sa2iYhQFdwTKYy-xhhi5JCKUjOFHkSNIiJok7RxIc5bX53Dvq4fQvty3umj5ISNcrvef_g8Xtlz16Gx0DiCDws0k2gUrfjzaEUJnQqYjiSbNKM5MgQlkfwhNld7mE-ci5AP9LBklSRg/s400/IMG_4075.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
The request was for no 'girl' colours but very basic neutral colour and design. We both agreed on this pattern KrisKross by <a href="http://suzyquilts.com/">Suzy Quilts</a> which I purchased online in a peach, black & white palette. A simply heart panto design was done by my regular quilter Mandy.<br />
<br />

I think we both love the reverse side best. Thought I sneek a picture of Eleanor in,with her wool embroidery blanket that I had previously made and took over with me .<br />

<br />
I retired from full-time work last July and haven't looked back. With all the material I have been stashing for years, I find plenty to keep me busy (as well as my beautiful grandchildren).<br />
<br />
A retirement gift to myself (which we all should do) was a Handiquilter Simply Sixteen longarm machine with the Little Buddy system. I have had such fun learning free motion quilting on this machine and have even taken an online course by Natalia Bonner Lets Stitch Scalloped Borders. Highly recommend this course via YouTube - I learnt so much which I am putting into practice.<br />
<br />
Facebook is another resource for learning tips and tricks from the various groups that you can join.<br />
<br />
So here is my latest Sewing Room with the Longarm machine all set up and ready to go.<br />

Here is my practice quilt showing the beautiful Borders that Natalia's course taught me how to do. Of course they are not perfect, but at least I have the knowledge on how to do them now.<br />

I’ve completed three of the quarters plus I’ve filled in part of the middle Flower Garden and done a quarter of the outside houses circle....phew!<br />
<br />
Still enjoying the felt work even though it feels endless, looking back at my previous blog post, I can see progress.<br />
<br />
The lighthouses in each corner are delightful as are the various houses, trees and flowers around edge. I could do a lot more embellishment on the houses but I just want to get as many done as I can, then I can go back and add little extras.<br />
<br />
I’ve had to alter my colours from the original pattern as the Navy background doesn’t allow me to use some of the darker colours. See my ginger and white rooster, he looks rather special I think.<br />

I have seen pictures of this beautiful craft but never thought I would be good enough to give it a go. <br />
<br />
With the help of a wonderful teacher, Pene, she compiled a simple project to get me underway. <br />
<br />
Here is the Pene's original project for me to copy, some small berries with a ladybird.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwsIIWxrJSUb7l3_BJWM-j7mrhU2giMJ4rl-R2YxOqe5VaafKivLY9zZjMxxjdsR4i0b0GXRPU4zpUzb7udqyLtVuaXQyc_RdKsM0RCXZogV4toEYmqVr0ufVLhBc_TAZqa9AFCm1AaVjV/s1600/Pene+Stumpwork.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwsIIWxrJSUb7l3_BJWM-j7mrhU2giMJ4rl-R2YxOqe5VaafKivLY9zZjMxxjdsR4i0b0GXRPU4zpUzb7udqyLtVuaXQyc_RdKsM0RCXZogV4toEYmqVr0ufVLhBc_TAZqa9AFCm1AaVjV/s320/Pene+Stumpwork.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
This project is a combination of surface work as well as detached embroidery. Using an embroidery hoop, two layers of fabric are stretched tight, one is the background fabric and the other is a backing fabric. First I laid down several threads which I covered by wrapping with a finishing thread, I then embroidered the two surface leaves in a satin stitch with a button-hole edging.<br />
<br />
Next the three small clusters of berries, are actually a small circle of material filled with French knots which is then gathered together to form a clump. This is then sewn into place on the background fabric.<br />
<br />
The five larger berries are simply clear beads covered with thread and a small seed bead attached onto the ends, these are then sewn onto the background fabric.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUIzi0bfxYTVtJu79IZlZeW2azTCzcXDLHA4HKpoRaGDSGRPBS4JMRsrpfvdyeHTUP1H6SncgOoTW9QWw95EQuj-8eKpT5j3sjqORE_ViTDmpHXogOpBJ_YQNqD5xtkpAA9jER_pcQTiwM/s1600/Stumpwork+no+frame.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="598" data-original-width="640" height="299" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUIzi0bfxYTVtJu79IZlZeW2azTCzcXDLHA4HKpoRaGDSGRPBS4JMRsrpfvdyeHTUP1H6SncgOoTW9QWw95EQuj-8eKpT5j3sjqORE_ViTDmpHXogOpBJ_YQNqD5xtkpAA9jER_pcQTiwM/s320/Stumpwork+no+frame.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The detached leaf is made in a separate embroidery hoop with a wire which is encased using blanket stitch then filled with satin stitch. The leaf is then cut from the fabric very very close to the stitching and using the wire end, poked through the background fabric and then this wire end is sewn down to the backing fabric.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The small ladybird is made the same way as the detached leaf using wire and bent into shape and attached. Using seed beads as eyes and small straight stitches for the legs, the ladybird comes to life.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I purchased a small wooden box (from Alison Cole's website) with a lid that enabled me to insert my lovely embroidery so that I have a memento of my first piece of Stumpwork.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am hooked !!! I have already started a beautiful piece with a hummingbird and flowers but I will keep you posted on my progress. </div>

How quickly things come together when there is no need to worry about unfinished edges....bliss<br />
<div>
<br /></div>

Deciding on one of Wendy’s patterns called Round The Garden, and selecting a navy background, I have begun the mammoth task of creating this beautiful quilt/wall hanging.</div>

</div>
<div>
I know it’s such a large project but I’m discovering some lovely combinations for making circles. I have decided to make simple diagrams so I remember how to make them. Here are a few to start with :-<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1EyvZOktYQM0eF2zUeA-0nUELYl74QPKc2yOA47vD5E0kK2m9lstLeUUEMNvOvkmACOWCN4qVNIey8P3eHadXWY5kJTpff8tAzsZn6vdYykK9yBS2NGIbuhe6uO-Lk6ecxg-SHWhpMEId/s1600/Flower+diagram.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="320" data-original-width="240" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1EyvZOktYQM0eF2zUeA-0nUELYl74QPKc2yOA47vD5E0kK2m9lstLeUUEMNvOvkmACOWCN4qVNIey8P3eHadXWY5kJTpff8tAzsZn6vdYykK9yBS2NGIbuhe6uO-Lk6ecxg-SHWhpMEId/s400/Flower+diagram.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
These flower diagrams are all done with combinations of the Fly-Stitch. By changing directions and adding other stitches, the combinations are endless. Once the circle is stitched, I then sew it to the background and then its fun to decide what the edging stitch will be. I particularly love the cast-on bullion stitch (as seen in the Sue Spargo craftsy class) I'll keep playing around to see what appears !<br />
<br />
I have decided to complete one half at a time, so my next step is to add the lighthouses and houses around the outside and fill in the flower circle (so many flowers to make!)<br />
<br />
Bye for now</div>

<br />
What have I accomplished over the last 12 months, well quite a bit but for now I wanted to show you my latest interest..... embroidery. I have started a class which will teach me stumpwork and other embroidery skills.<br />
<br />
As we have a new baby expected in May over in London, I have just finished a beautiful woollen blanket with the design by ‘windflower embrodery’ Not hard at all, even making the teddy from scratch from velour then stuffing him and attaching to the blanket. It’s all in the instructions together with the embroidery guide.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The only trouble I had was choosing the backing material, Gemma (mother-to-be) didn’t want anything traditional like pink, so I went with a gold/mustard colour with small white crosses. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There really is nothing like a comfy woollen blanket for those cold nights in a London winter so I think ‘Baby H’ will be snug and warm this year.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now onto the cot quilt and floor quilt......see you soon.</div>

Wonderful weather, beautiful setting, delicious food, inspiring craft and best of all lovely friends.<br />
<br />
As this was a UFO we all took those numerous projects that were gathering dust just waiting to be finished.<br />
<br />
I accomplished two complete finishes, so I was chuffed (my stash is getting smaller now)<br />
<br />
Quite a while ago, I had done a class with Sue Weeks to make an embroidered bag. Of course I had finished the embroidery (finally) but it took some extra coaching to turn it into a lovely tote bag<br />
<br />

<br />
A visit to the AQC earlier last month saw me purchase a kit for a modern hexi table runner from Hugs N Kisses. All material and iron-on hexis were included and this was another achievement on the weekend.<br />

No Applique or any other colours so I started thinking...what should I do.<div><br></div><div>They say simple is best so I went for s herringbone pattern with a soft grey with white crosses teamed with a solid white. A very simple straight line quilting completed the look and I must admit, I was very happy with the end result. My first modern quilt!!</div><div><br></div><div><br><br></div><div><img id="id_ec18_2f6c_e17_dcbe" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzbS3caSIVeDBUxgE0SuQSZfBxZxhSPaxahFCFMlOpJyQJSWnHQN3fTZK_JNsjGBfqjkp09G-zR8y3OgeOeE0zCoYi139c4nBjLt-m7w3M4KctpzQMr2fk0YWhOBHUpRy2QN3y0Tez8Lge/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br></div><div><br><div><img id="id_8026_60b8_d0b8_9f56" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSoPGnoukrE9sd_6f8iTBS48t2cqKia3OBylxADP0-Sh8WYOBtG9vRnUFYcFItB_pTY2v2urlckUNuUV_ztpghyubFbq39ykl0pjo2skNZvjVo5Sss5CQqxlkX-3F64iuNtlPlbt9Nsi0N/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 353px; height: auto;"><br><br></div><div><br></div></div>Dawnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17129708864517934940noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2795917346416761822.post-18658837673549794202017-10-12T19:54:00.001-07:002017-10-12T20:15:29.467-07:00FOXLEY FINISHEDIt’s so nice to get my finished quilt, Foxley Village, back from the talented Mandy who does my quilting.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
What a stunner this project has turned out to be. A monthly project that was featured in Homespun Magazine last year made with Tilda fabric and comprised of both appliqué and machine pieced blocks.</div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDGbkNKqwj4TQ1iZiz_uCf7hfDfKiru-DdqrCQhoYQRjPgkRFKlBeI1Apv3inbPXH43EeOuH976maN7qrYVxSdNs1C7abscPlOnWaOTeWsbyQJoB9OMOVxbt-gwzQ-QoLlInz7XqpLFQvk/s1600/%255BUNSET%255D" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="640" id="id_721f_b7d1_d2b9_9b7b" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDGbkNKqwj4TQ1iZiz_uCf7hfDfKiru-DdqrCQhoYQRjPgkRFKlBeI1Apv3inbPXH43EeOuH976maN7qrYVxSdNs1C7abscPlOnWaOTeWsbyQJoB9OMOVxbt-gwzQ-QoLlInz7XqpLFQvk/s640/%255BUNSET%255D" title="" tooltip="" width="514" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
</div>
<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I am still sewing on the binding but you can see how lovely this quilt is. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Take a closer look at Mandy’s wonderful quilting, there is so much variety in patterns, I could look all day and still find a different one.</div>

I’ve already made space on the wall for this one as I think it’s nice to display my quilts rather than hide them away, after all they end up costing a lot both in money and time.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
If you ever think you can’t do a quilt like this, I suggest a BOM with a friend as each month you help each other with problems and ensure you finish on time and before you know it you’ve made a whole quilt over a 12 month period. </div>

This years project is by Annie Downs, and its called - Dancing Chickens & Flying Pigs.<br />
<br />
Its a 12 block quilt/wall hanging worked on a Linen background with felted Wool shapes and embroidery. I am loving working with the Wool (no need to worry about turning under the applique pieces). By using matching wool or DMC threads, a simply applique stitch and viola......its done....easy really.<br />

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_vb9CvgKyVLurNFEiVX5O-PIMxBaNfXbE-CiKHNxdrQuNAnZzsGod_QFm4aK47FbdL21UBHB3tKS_zU2tzkH2AXVNk1fNblhKEWz12a1jETFUxao4eGs0GTkQEk7SywoVITzj-dIwkesh/s640/blogger-image--101725219.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_vb9CvgKyVLurNFEiVX5O-PIMxBaNfXbE-CiKHNxdrQuNAnZzsGod_QFm4aK47FbdL21UBHB3tKS_zU2tzkH2AXVNk1fNblhKEWz12a1jETFUxao4eGs0GTkQEk7SywoVITzj-dIwkesh/s640/blogger-image--101725219.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I went for a lovely peppermint and brown polar combination for the quilt top, and matched a Pooh Bear brown minki on the back.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Sometimes the simple designs are the best and I chose a triangle pieced top</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpQBRuvCASZDPBmZrsFLlfLOFj3l8zcmJZSj3MeupTDbm7WIEndeKuPwTiN6JujlZQD91t-up2kZqwQ7jOd5VdJff3Npqc1WH-AeEBfgTRG15F3E3sWj4VoBspsLWJi_DkuFAzcZH3SQk8/s640/blogger-image-1643949910.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpQBRuvCASZDPBmZrsFLlfLOFj3l8zcmJZSj3MeupTDbm7WIEndeKuPwTiN6JujlZQD91t-up2kZqwQ7jOd5VdJff3Npqc1WH-AeEBfgTRG15F3E3sWj4VoBspsLWJi_DkuFAzcZH3SQk8/s640/blogger-image-1643949910.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I'm still not confident to do the quilting especially as this was for a gift, so off it went to my quilter, Mandy, who again did a lovely job with an overall swirl of her own design.</div>

<br />
Here's the latest block that I've finished for my Homespun Foxley Village project. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Just loving the Tilda fabric, I would never have selected some of the colour combinations but there you go,.... they work !!! Just goes to show that just because you wouldn't choose it, doesnt mean it wouldn't work Sometimes its nice to just do and you are told and you get a very pleasant surprise.Dawnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17129708864517934940noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2795917346416761822.post-75184969959758845592016-06-19T20:48:00.000-07:002016-06-19T20:48:36.686-07:00YOKO SAITO "HOUSES"<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
How nice are some people, especially quilters...Helen from Helens Patchwork Passion invited me to join her, Sue and Julia (no blogs) to get together to work on this beautiful quilt by Yoko Saito.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I only met Helen thru blogging and she's been so generous both in her knowledge and in sharing her supplies....big thanks to you Helen 💐💐💐💐<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I've almost finished Block 1 - all needle turn (although I did use some appliqué paper on the small pieces) </div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGN4-lSvZ9YE1UQKgny1xNk-gvNL21YrA8m2cv6ETU4XL1-EeN_30N1KVSwC5HH22LuARnoUnIq__B25ta12HA8DJX_BNvZTb9ytzBA_q4PgqPeKMWkEaIJm82yOEpk_q3NZmJQOOWPbND/s640/blogger-image--1718251685.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGN4-lSvZ9YE1UQKgny1xNk-gvNL21YrA8m2cv6ETU4XL1-EeN_30N1KVSwC5HH22LuARnoUnIq__B25ta12HA8DJX_BNvZTb9ytzBA_q4PgqPeKMWkEaIJm82yOEpk_q3NZmJQOOWPbND/s640/blogger-image--1718251685.jpg" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We are using Japanese woven material which I'm finding does fray quite a bit so the idea is not to fiddle with it too much, easy said than done with needle turn!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8FVfEmP6Xu2-Lm-3NRTJj0hdIqlkODJa0rhccotfrDxFYsVdGq2FT0ROS5oP1ckty5tV1MX6qKWXZmA6ws5C4OzzppDoM-5pMKFbdG3TGeOU7Dwnep7G3XonmqpWeu9JfVCpE1PZSYyt7/s640/blogger-image-2027359156.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8FVfEmP6Xu2-Lm-3NRTJj0hdIqlkODJa0rhccotfrDxFYsVdGq2FT0ROS5oP1ckty5tV1MX6qKWXZmA6ws5C4OzzppDoM-5pMKFbdG3TGeOU7Dwnep7G3XonmqpWeu9JfVCpE1PZSYyt7/s640/blogger-image-2027359156.jpg" /></a></div>
The embroidery accentuates the features and finishes off each piece nicely.</div>

<div>
This type of quilting is more rustic than normal but the finished quilt is quite stunning and all hand worked which is so relaxing.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We are all meeting up this Thursday to start the next block so I'd better finish my embroidery ready to go again.....I'll keep posting each block to show you the process.</div>

<br />
I love to try new techniques, and when I was visiting the beautiful Mill Rose Cottage late last year, I picked up some Sashiko embroidery panels. The lines are pre-printed onto the panel and all you do is stitch using a running stitch.<br />
<br />
I used a Sashiko thread which is similar to a Perle Cotton, in a bright white colour to highlight the lovely pattern. There are also special long needles that you should use but I found my embroidery needles did the trick.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6kC8Bk8zxEE90ZcboIwPSNaDKTJKU6U24a3lztxynOE9avWUqAe7fnNHpO8qnzXGtq8fqpgzprDGK2sMD1SCTmfUnqjwSimlZ3LlSCJvxPBCaNFtC-EikQCYhm6iLn4AOB8GVh22txMyc/s1600/Sashiko.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6kC8Bk8zxEE90ZcboIwPSNaDKTJKU6U24a3lztxynOE9avWUqAe7fnNHpO8qnzXGtq8fqpgzprDGK2sMD1SCTmfUnqjwSimlZ3LlSCJvxPBCaNFtC-EikQCYhm6iLn4AOB8GVh22txMyc/s400/Sashiko.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
You can see that I haven't embroidered all the outside crosses, as I am thinking of attaching a border and maybe even adding more panels for a table runner. <br />
<br />
Now why not pop across to <a href="http://sunshinequilting.blogspot.com.au/2016/03/patchwork-with-stichery-sal-march-link.html">Martina at Sunshine Quilting</a> and have a look at the other works of art that the lovely bloggers have done. Always inspirational<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Enjoy your day,<br />

<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue light" , , "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif;">We are surrounded by babies at the moment....must be the season! </span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I always like to do a baby quilt for my family and friends when they become parents or grandparents. I really wanted to try using minki fabric as the backing, but have been terribly afraid because of the stretch, but after reading up on how to sew it, I decided to give it a go.....</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjivR_Zht-XagjZ1J8vSiRM5QY3qRyeXxbqFy4E62ClyeYTddwfmnoDZXGunKl9IrmODDjBYK6N71A21VrEApLVZ4PzwzBgn2R1-niY59A8fcLzEThyphenhyphen6lv4Tv7Oc-7YgH9W8AoxlwAnjjRn/s640/blogger-image-771450983.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjivR_Zht-XagjZ1J8vSiRM5QY3qRyeXxbqFy4E62ClyeYTddwfmnoDZXGunKl9IrmODDjBYK6N71A21VrEApLVZ4PzwzBgn2R1-niY59A8fcLzEThyphenhyphen6lv4Tv7Oc-7YgH9W8AoxlwAnjjRn/s640/blogger-image-771450983.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Using a pattern from <a href="http://cluckclucksew.com/2012/03/love.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+CluckCluckSew+(Cluck+Cluck+Sew)&utm_content=Google+Reader">Cluck Cluck Sew</a> , I gathered my scraps of pink fabrics and teamed them with a plain Emma Louise white.<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEHxjn2jXBNOIjnIPECtNvUvfN53mP1maDzyWzOtTXy9mabnpFtH_URqVXxgrW3n4lQMVySo3UbuDgU1fnRI0VH6QqqbpFYdZAUnCJJyOCJdv-h3lam5gGdKIuMepkTSr5-JpoqZ7uTpUM/s640/blogger-image--1925399145.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEHxjn2jXBNOIjnIPECtNvUvfN53mP1maDzyWzOtTXy9mabnpFtH_URqVXxgrW3n4lQMVySo3UbuDgU1fnRI0VH6QqqbpFYdZAUnCJJyOCJdv-h3lam5gGdKIuMepkTSr5-JpoqZ7uTpUM/s640/blogger-image--1925399145.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
To add something different, I bordered the edges with grey dot material.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil0s1oQMBVJSU5NpSGW44eBdwtnICHo75Ib8EtgTKwLm_FmMD0MUE0G7ZsLEGNeM7CJT6CPE5nNMUvZPS0zQx8mhqNNEsxPdBqrY0vAtrsS0Ow217jrf9Qf3EsaixAWMP4oKGwog8fDHwP/s640/blogger-image--1649059211.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil0s1oQMBVJSU5NpSGW44eBdwtnICHo75Ib8EtgTKwLm_FmMD0MUE0G7ZsLEGNeM7CJT6CPE5nNMUvZPS0zQx8mhqNNEsxPdBqrY0vAtrsS0Ow217jrf9Qf3EsaixAWMP4oKGwog8fDHwP/s640/blogger-image--1649059211.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I was most afraid how to quilt the top with the minki. Using my walking foot, I sewed straight crossed lines fairly wide to keep a nice soft feel.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUVaRe7KBpVAOEJ_08FOaNf4bar8BvjUUX5iR4ZiEIBh7T52Iu7TuOAa6QkEYI44a_nNydq2ybZ3kgILeUcFCDg5baIRn75yJbZgNEsoJo_VNpUZnwQHbq6TIjqH73VWwdZYDEAk2pcWtR/s640/blogger-image--1877084497.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUVaRe7KBpVAOEJ_08FOaNf4bar8BvjUUX5iR4ZiEIBh7T52Iu7TuOAa6QkEYI44a_nNydq2ybZ3kgILeUcFCDg5baIRn75yJbZgNEsoJo_VNpUZnwQHbq6TIjqH73VWwdZYDEAk2pcWtR/s640/blogger-image--1877084497.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I thought it was lovely and soft but then I washed it and wow it came up even softer than before. Now I think I will do all the babies quilts with the minki on the back.....so cuddly.<br />
<br />
I think it turned out beautifully and it's off to its new owner next week. I'm sure she will love it! </div>
